Why Humus
Replenishing organic matter with the most active component of organic matter (humus) is an efficient way to get the benefits of organic matter without significantly changing production methods. (Kasim 2011, Celik 2011, Dong 2009,Taufik 2011)
Organic matter plays a key role in many soil processes because it affects, among others, soil structure, nutrient dynamics and soil life. Decomposition of soil organic matter is a highly important process (fungi/bacteria story). (Franciska 2006)
With depleting soils and organic matter, soils become unproductive with nutrients less available, fertilisers less effective and soils more susceptible to disease. Roughly half of organic matter by weight is made up of carbon. Carbon is what plants use to cycle nutrients and energy through the soil. Humus (5-10% of soil organic matter) is the component that allows nutrients to be taken up by crops for quick feeding. (Ohio State University)

Application Rates
The following are general usage rates. Use our Soil Health Calculator for specific rates for your crop and soil type.
Horticulture
Via irrigation – 5-10L/ha applied regularly during growing season. Dilute 1:100 with water.
Foliar Spray – Not recommended in horticulture.
Broad-acre Crops & Pasture
Apply 2-3L/ha 1-3 times during growing season.
Dilute at least 1:100 with water.
Nitrogen Buffering – To improve N uptake & reduce leaf damage from UAN, Urea, Ammonium fertiliser.
Leaf scorch: apply 1L/30L UAN
Boomspray mixing order – Add Water … then Soil Enhancer … then UAN
Mixing with UAN Concentrate: 20-30L Soil Enhancer per 1,000L UAN
Always add UAN to Soil Enhancer (add Soil Enhancer to container first); it is useful to pre-mix Soil Enhancer 50:50 with water before adding to the container.
Fertiliser Coating: Apply 4-6L Soil Enhancer per tonne fertiliser
Compatibility
Soil Enhancer is an alkaline product, do not add to acidic (low pH) fertilisers. If tank mixing, add Soil Enhancer first, followed by other components. Soil Enhancer is ideal for using with UAN, urea and other ammonium based fertilisers. Do not tank mix with NPK or soluble phosphorus fertiliser. Always test mix (jar test) small quantities to ensure compatibility before use. Soil Enhancer is generally not compatible with agricultural chemicals (insecticides, fungicides, herbicides). If in doubt, check chemical label for mixing instructions.
Handling
Causes eye irritation.
Causes mild skin irritation.
IF IN EYES: Rinse cautiously with water for several minutes. Remove contact lenses, if present and easy to do. Continue rinsing. If eye irritation persists, get medical advice/attention.
